Bibico is a British-based ethical brand with a slower “back to basics” approach to fashion. They are focused on creating timeless, high-quality pieces to last a lifetime. They use 100% natural materials, and many pieces are crafted using organic cotton. Bibico also ensure the people that produce their clothes are paid a fair wage and that they work in a safe environment.
Currently, Bibico work with two women’s cooperatives that are both fair trade certified by the WFTO. The cooperatives provide women with training, education and work, empowering them to move themselves and their children forward and out of the world of poverty. One of the cooperatives is based in India. It has grown significantly over the past decade and now provides work for more than 270 women each year.
Bibico’s founder Snow knew she had to take action as soon as she walked through the door of a women’s cooperative in Mumbai. She had previously been designing for major high st clothing brands and became disillusioned by how the industry was now churning out new collections every week. The clothes were cheaper but the quality was worse and there was no consideration for the people producing these clothes.
It was time for a change.
Inspired by the things that matter to Snow the most – the outdoors, simple, family pleasures and her home in Northern Spain, she sat down to sketch her first Bibico collection. Today, Bibico creates easy to wear, fuss free and well made clothing.
