Christmas is coming and so it’s time to clear out your closet. Before you go crazy adding items to your wishlist, work through your wardrobe as see what you really need. Remember: it’s more beneficial for you, and for the environment, to have fewer items you love than loads you like. A clearer closet, a clearer mind!
If you still really want that coat you’ve had your eye on for a while, see what you can recycle or resell to make space. Do NOT throw anything out, no matter how tatty it is now. An estimated £100 million worth or around 350,000 tonnes of used clothing goes to landfill in the UK every year (WRAP). These items could be repaired, reused, or recycled. Head down to your local charity shop or recycling center to give back before you get. Use Recycle Now’s locator to find out where your nearest recycling point is: http://www.recyclenow.com/recycling-locator. Quite a few shops are also collecting bags of goods. TKMaxx collect clothing and accessories at all stores throughout the UK. The clothes are then sold in Cancer Research UK stores to help fund research into kids cancer.
So think before you buy this Christmas. Choose environmentally and ethically conscious brands for a couple of carefully selected wardrobe additions, and recycle or resell any unwanted items (or gifts!). After all, a minimalist wardrobe looks so much cooler!
